IC INFO
Name: Orion Pax
Canon/Continuity: TFP
Reference: why though
Canon Point: Just before the Iacon Council.
Personality: The most succinct description of Orion Pax's personality would be “a librarian turned revolutionary” - a primarily intellectual and idealogical character who willingly entered a world of discrimination and violence for only one reason: the pursuit of a better world. He has all the sorts of traits you would expect from a librarian – a thoughtful, studious disposition, a love for learning and reading, and the shy, cautious demeanour of someone who is more comfortable with books than people – but beneath all that there is a streak of something bolder. Orion Pax is a being with the kind of courage that doesn't come from speaking loudly or being aggressive, but instead a quiet strength. Orion will do the right thing when it's necessarily and will shoulder any burden if he considers it his responsibility, and he will do this regardless of the personal cost. His serious, quiet behaviour may make him come across as distant, but this is far from the case. He has some amount of compassion for almost every creature he's ever met, and a deep faith in the idea that there is the potential for good in everyone.

Orion Pax goes on to become Optimus Prime, the legendary leader of the Autobots and the savior of his people, but this is far before that. This is him as a young bot, where the years have not had the chance to wear away his innocence, and the burden of leadership has not hardened away some of his more emotional and uncertain qualities. One thing remains with him throughout it all, though: his belief that every sentient being deserves freedom, and that even the most corrupted souls deserve a chance for redemption.

Orion grew up on Cybertron as nothing more than a data archivist, meaning that he spent every day analyzing and sorting communications and media data, fostering a contemplative disposition that would stay with him through it all. He was more curious than his caste required or encouraged, and disinclined to ignore the suffering of those around him despite his generally comfortable, if caste-restricted, life. Specifically, over time, he began using his archive access to read about the almost forgotten history of Cybertron - and with this information, he began piecing together an unpleasant trend of cultural oppression, and how the functionalist caste system so many bots suffered under had come to be. He realized that Cybertron wasn't okay the way it was, and that things needed to change if the oppression of the lower castes was ever to be stopped. But his rebellious thoughts didn't meet action until he discovered the movement surrounding an incredibly low caste construction worker called Megatron.

It's a complicated story, but the important point is that Orion was a young and largely untested nerd who threw himself into a world of violence and revolution. He became close friends with Megatron, and they bounced their philosophical and ideological thoughts off of each other until the revolution became a product of their combined minds. Megatron was always more violent in his intentions than Orion, and wasn't shy about telling everyone he knew about how he would change Cybertron even if it meant killing everyone in power personally. Orion wasn't completely reluctant to pursue violence, if necessary, but he held onto more idealistic hopes, dreaming that someday his and Megatron's words would convince society to change rather than their swords. However, he understood the suffering that Megatron and his people went through - he could not condemn a bot for fighting for freedom that he so desperately needed. Even Orion thirsted to be more than society would allow someone of his caste, and his wasn't nearly as bad as those beneath him.

Orion naturally speaks in a formal and polite manner, and while he is reserved in personality, he is not afraid of making very passionate, intense, and sincere statements whenever the opportunity arises. He is always very genuine and straightforward with his thoughts, but he can also be humble to the point of being slightly self deprecating, and has not yet developed the force of personality he would as Optimus Prime later in life. There is a certain presence that comes with his strength of heart, but in terms of mannerisms...well, he does come across like the shy and bookish sort. In the episodes where we see him in Transformers Prime, he has a distinct habit of averting his eyes from people when he's nervous or uncertain, and is always fairly cautious with his words. Despite his leadership potential, he respects the authority of others – a good example of this is that when he encounters a future version of Megatron, he goes from referring to him on a more personal basis to referring to him as “Lord Megatron” without question. If people have a title or a prefered way of being refered to he will most likely use it.

Despite the fact that he is respectful and cooperative with those that have earned it, though, he will not hesitate to stand up to someone if they are crossing a line. This is obvious in the fact that he actively seeks to question the status quo earlier in his life, but he will do this on a more personal basis as well. Having believed that him and Megatron were allies, he was willing to use his skills to help his friend decode a number of important files, but the moment Orion began to suspect that Megatron was using them for dubious purposes, he had no problem straight up telling Megatron that he was done helping with his sketchy bullshit and deleting all his progress for good measure. He knows when to follow and he knows when to stand his ground; he is always very concerned with trying to do the right thing, and does not take failure lightly.

He does, however, not know how to tell a good joke. This aspect of him never changes.

Sample: so awkward.
Optimus Prime is cruising around doing Optimus Prime stuff.

AND THEN, FOR SOME REASON, HE FINDS A CRASHED DECEPTICON SHUTTLE ON HIS SCANNERS.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
Day ???

My first experience after "recruitment" was finding myself on an alien planet being threatened by vast, geothermal based lifeforms, the approximate shape of walking mountains. Sentient natives did not understand any language I held on record and had no interest in hearing me. I initially misunderstood my purpose on the planet and assumed I was there to defend them.

I later discovered a network formed between the members of my "team" and met a human called Roxy Lalonde, who informed me of the situation. This CDC is a organization bent on the destruction of planets for some unknown purpose, likely monetary compensation. Though who could have the wealth to hire such a mercenary force is unknown to me.

I met a young human man named Reiner Braun there who shared my discontent with the idea of dragging untrained recruits into such a situation. Unfortunately, because I could accomplish much on this planet I had been moved to another one called Ajna, which the CDC intends to destroy.

I have not had time to record my findings until now, on the trek back to the "camp" they have set up for their new recruits. I am appalled by the lack of care taken in this operation. New recruits were dropped onto the side of a local mountain, the force of which triggered a series of deadly avalanches. It is a wonder that none of them were killed, and I spent much of the day uncovering victims and escorting them down the mountain.

There has been little time to reflect. I am disturbed by the faint memories I have of receiving medical treatment after my recruitment - apparently their facilities were capable of fully repairing my body. It is a relief that I can take no joy in. I worry for Smokescreen - I do not know what circumstances I have left him in. Primus knowing, I worry for them all.

I had expected that I would leave them, but not like this.

Day 15

I have been told that it is the 15th day of this planet's cycle since CDC activities have begun and so I will address time accordingly.

Things have been calmer since we returned to camp, though I am no more at ease. They miraculously had a vehicle large enough to house a Cybertronian, but not especially comfortably. I have met the beings I will be staying with, one of which is a dragon named Temeraire who is larger than I am. We have both decided that we would be better served by sleeping outdoors unless conditions become extreme.

Ajna is beautiful but cold, much like the ice caps of Earth. Thankfully, the temperatures do not dip low enough to damage me on the surfaces we inhabit. As for most of the organics present, I am not sure. None of the species here appear to have developed civilization, and the apex predators are exceptionally hostile. Though I cannot blame them - we are the invaders, and that must be remembered.

I wonder who would see purpose in disposing of such a planet. Surely no political agenda could benefit from such a thing.

I do not appreciate the way some of the commanders speak to their recruits. However, many of the recruits themselve have proven to be quite civil if not fully pleasant.
